REMPC of Larimer and Weld Counties
The Northern Front Range consists of Larimer and Weld Counties and is widely recognized for its high standard of living and strong growth. It has a diverse and abundant portfolio of resources and efforts dedicated to energy research, production, projects, products, practices, programs, and policies. However, more needs to be done to partner, build consensus, and harness these efforts to create a larger vision and a greater impact.
The Regional Energy Master Plan Consortium (REMPC) is a collaboration of individuals, companies, organizations, and governments working together to achieve common goals focused on energy conservation (reduce demand), efficiency (improve performance and production), advancements (innovation with traditional production), and renewables (replenish naturally) in Northern Colorado. The focus of the Consortium is to bring all the appropriate energy sector stakeholders together to cast a vision of an energy future for the region.
The REMPC is intended to be a catalyst toward this goal because investment flows to communities that collaborate and wisely steward resources. Investment leads to a healthy and resilient economy that creates high quality jobs through the expansion of existing businesses and the creation of new ones. Stewardship leads to a healthier environment, building upon the high standard of living and providing an advantage in a rapidly changing global economy.
The kick-off to the REMPC was the Northern Colorado Regional Energy Roundtable held on October 20, 2011. If you have not had the chance, please check out the Roundtable Report for an overview. The next step for the REMPC is to have stakeholders from each of the energy sector groups choose representatives to serve on the advisory council. Among many important functions, the advisory council will be charged with selecting and managing the REMPC surrogate (the entity taking the lead for planning, coordinating, and facilitating the regional energy master plan effort). In coordination with the advisory council, the surrogate will also plan a main conference to promote learning, vision-building, dialogue, and collaboration. With this and other purposes in mind, we will be meeting again and are currently working on a date and venue.
