Performance Metrics for Commercial Buildings

In the midst of discussing partnership and processes between NREL/DOE and Living City Block, an interesting concept emerged.  Rather than focusing on the micro level efficiency of just one building, what if The Alliance were to expand this to capitalize on the whole block?  This would reduce the potential issues of raising capital and would take advantage of economies of scale by collaborating with the other building owners on the block.  Once this has been implemented then energy efficiency will follow in a more unified version.

Because The Alliance is looking at transforming the existing parking lot into a community garden space which would serve two needs: fulfills the communities goal of a working space and implements a sustainable area which reduces energy consumption.
