Academic Benefits of Environmental Education

The National Wildlife Federation’s Eco-Schools USA program provides a 1-page pdf file outlining the academic benefits of the inclusion of environmental education in childhood education.

Students of all cultural, economic, and racial backgrounds engaged in hands-on environmental education had an increase in their learning curves. These same students also had higher average test scores than students who were not engaged in environmental education in such subjects as literacy and mathematics. They also had improved critical thinking skills, improved student behavior and attitudes, improved science achievement, and more positive attitudes towards learning.
