Patagonia is the first benefit corporation in California….

Last week in California a dozen companies lined up to at the Secretary of State’s office to become benefit corporations. The first one in line was Patagonia. Benefit corporations are a new corporate structure which allows corporations to maximize social and environmental benefits rather than the traditional fiduciary duty of only maximizing profits.

Nichole directs policy for the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado; policies which promote sustainability. Her background includes extensive public policy work for state-based and national grassroots organizations; including coordinating a statewide campaign to facilitate voter education and increase public participation in the political process regarding land use and development in Colorado.
