Wheatboard, made of recycled wheat chaff, is a superior replacement for particle board, hardwood plywood, or Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF).
The wheatboard in the Alliance Center uses an alternative bonding agent without formaldehyde. It is emission free!
Wheat straw fiber is a waste product from an annual agriculture crop that is typically burned (creating green house gases). Instead the waste is turned into a cash crop for farmers.
Wheatboard can be used for cabinets, countertops, shelving, closets and sub-flooring.
Advantages over traditional MDF: • More moisture resistant. • Superior screw and nail retention. • Machinable. • Ideal surface for paints and laminates. • Superior strength and stiffness. • 10% lighter than other particle boards.
