Americans lead the world in municipal solid waste generation. Since 1970, the amount of waste each American creates has almost doubled to 5 pounds per day. This is a waste of materials, energy and money.
Reduce- The most effective way to stop this trend is by preventing waste in the first place. Purchase long lasting goods while avoiding disposables and extra packaging in purchases ranging from coffee cups to computers.
Reuse- If documents are printed on both sides, trees are saved. If a document does not need to be printed that’s even better! Reuse plates, cups and flatware. Find new homes for unwanted furniture and clothing.
Recycle- The Alliance Center offers a Single Stream recycling Program to building employees and visitors, A variety of materials, such as phone books and plastic bottles, can be mixed in the same blue recycling bin. Single stream recycling is so convenient that participation in recycling increases greatly.
