Although open floor plans increase interaction, natural light and air flow, noise can also travel more easily and reduce work performance. Sound-absorbing and sound-masking materials limit distractions.
• These ceiling tiles have a 0.7 Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC), which is an average rating of sound absorption ranging from zero (perfectly reflective) to 1 (perfectly absorptive).
• The office partitions, incorporating 80% recycled fabric over soft cores (as opposed to fabric over metal) were chosen for their sound absorptive quality.
• Sound deadening board (structural fiberboard) is made of 97% organic materials including recovered wood or sugar cane fibers. It is affordable as 4’ x 8’ sheets. This board has a sound transmission class rating of at least 45. The higher the Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating, the more efficiently a material absorbs noise.
• Carpet has been installed to soften people’s footfalls.
