Partnering with students is a rewarding way to practice forward thinking.
The Alliance is dedicated to education and looks for opportunities to work with colleges, schools and people interested in learning about and advancing sustainability.
During the 2004 fall semester, The Alliance for Sustainable Colorado partnered with the University of Colorado at Denver Graduate School of Architecture on a multi-disciplinary design studio. Four teams of graduate students used the Alliance center as curriculum for this studio taught by Professor Chris Koziol covering conservation and preservation. The goal of the teams was to design a new building on our adjoining lot blended with the current historic Alliance Center structure. Each team incorporated green and collaborative features with respecting LoDo Historic District guidelines.
The studio provided students with a real world application that combined their skills in architecture, planning, landscape architecture, and historic preservation. They received feedback from members of the Alliance team and an array of practitioners- some LEED certified- including architects, engineers, builders and an historian. Innovative and practical ideas from each team will be reflected in the expanded Alliance Center.
