The Alliance Center supports the development of clean, renewable electricity by purchasing windpower credits for 100% of its energy needs. Because wind energy current costs more to produce than electricity from coal, The Alliance Center purchases Green Tags, covering the additional cost of wind. While our electricity comes from Xcel Energy, the Alliance Center is guaranteed that 525 megawatt hours of new wind energy are added to Colorado’s electric grid each year to cover our needs.
Supporting Colorado windpower in this way ensures local jobs and sustainable community development, develops the wind market which drives down prices while improving turbine technology, and means cleaner air. Residential customers can purchase Colorado wind energy for about $2.00 per 100 kWh.
