Disability access

Structural, architectural and communication barriers make buildings less accessible to people with disabilities, children, the elderly and people carrying heavy loads.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sets guidelines for incorporating user-friendly features and removing hazards in office buildings:

  • Levered or looped door handles
  • Toilets 17-19” high
  • Signage in Braille and raised letters
  • Signs in prescribed locations
  • Passageways at least 36” wide
  • Handrails
  • Ramps
  • Parking conveniently located
