Energy & Atmosphere

Energy and Atmosphere: The Alliance Center has installed energy efficient measures which have resulted in reduced energy consumption and utility bills, while the number of building occupants has doubled. Click here to learn more

  • T-8 Fluorescent and Ballasts: The Alliance Center reduced its energy consumption by 40% just by changing out the lamps. Click here to learn more
  • Comfortable Lighting: Optimal lighting levels are created automatically with a photo cell that balances the amount of artificial light with incoming natural light. Click here to learn more
  • Occupancy Sensors: Energy consumption is reduced when the lights turn off naturally when the room is unoccupied with a simple sensor. Click here to learn more
  • Direct Digital Control System: The DDC system minimizes energy costs by allowing customization of the temperature in multiple zones throughout the building. Click here to learn more
  • Glass Front Doors: With the special features of the high performance insulating glass, the Alliance Center doors have a heat resistance value almost 4 times that of traditional double pane glass. Click here to learn more
  • Window Tinting: The windows in all of the lobbies have a special film that rejects 99% of UV radiation, reduces glare and saves energy. Click here to learn more
  • Window Shade Screens: The Alliance Center uses 100% recycled and recyclable screens that help save on energy consumption. Click here to learn more
  • Water Fountains: Water fountains that aren’t chilled save the Alliance Center $200 per year. Click here to learn more

Water Efficiency

Water Efficiency: All of the Alliance Center’s more efficient water fixture models have reduced the building’s water consumption by 84%. click here to learn more

  • Faucet Flow Restrictors: This inexpensive aerator is a great way to save water and the energy required to heat that water. click here to learn more
  • Monthly Water Bills: All of the improved water fixtures save the Alliance Center $4,500 per year, which will pay back the $22,000 investment in the fixtures in less than five years. click here to learn more
  • Infra Red Self-Generating Faucets: These faucets provide a no-touch convenience and save water and energy by generating its own hydropower. click here to learn more
  • Low Flow Shower heads: The Alliance Center showerheads deliver less than 2 gallons per minute which provides significant conservation results. click here to learn more
  • Dual Flush Toilets: This gives an option whether to use more or less water to flush, depending on the need. click here to learn more
  • One-Gallon Toilets: The Alliance Center toilets consume just 1 gallon per flush with the assistance of a pressure device that moves the water twice as fast. click here to learn more
  • Water Free Urinals: This is one of the greatest water conserving appliances at the Alliance Center that is also hands-free, increasing restroom hygiene. click here to learn more
Materials & Resources

Materials & Resources: The Alliance Center was design with resource use in mind. We eliminated as many as possible and only used reclaimed, recycled or sustainably sourced materials whenever possible. Click here to learn more

  • Acoustics Muffled Zone: Sound absorbing ceiling tiles, office partitions and sound boards limit noise distractions in an open floor plan that lets natural light and air flow. Click here to learn more
  • Post-Beam Construction: Douglas Fir trees were hand-hewn and hand-sawed to create the posts and beams at the Alliance Center.  Click here to learn more
  • Fire Doors: The doors leading into the stairwell are strong and fire-proof and use low-VOC sealants and no-formaldehyde binders. Click here to learn more
  • Bamboo: Bamboo is a great alternative wood for furniture and flooring because of how quick growing it is.  Click here to learn more
  • Reclaimed Wood: Some of the Alliance furniture is made from samples of reclaimed materials that had been diverted from the waste system. Click here to learn more
  • Carpet Tiles: The Alliance Center uses interface carpet tiles that contribute to the sustainable use of resources and improve indoor air quality without the use of toxic glues.  Click here to learn more
  • Furnishings Sustainable from Start to Finish: Most of the furnishings in the Alliance Center are made from reused or recycled materials.  Click here to learn more
  • Insulation: Installing insulation may reduce energy bills up to 30% while creating a more comfortable indoor environment.  Click here to learn more
  • Natural Flooring: The Alliance Center counter tops and linoleum floors are made of a natural product called Marmoleum.  Click here to learn more

  • Biking to Work: The Alliance Center encourages tenants to bike to work by providing convenient bike racks and showers for bikers. click here to learn more
  • Mass Transit: The location of the Alliance Center is conveniently located next to bus stops and the light rail and a RTD kiosk in the building provides information on transit routes and schedules. click here to learn more
